As a convenience to you and all families we serve,
we are happy to submit funeral notices and obituary data to any
newspapers that you may choose. There are several things you should
know about how these notices are handled by our local papers.
The "Obituary" in most of our local daily
papers are run free, one time only, and are edited by the newspaper.
The paper determines what day the obituary will be run and will
name only the immediate survivors with a city of residence, which
include; spouse, children, sisters, brothers, parents and grandparents.
Grand and great grandchildren are listed by number only, a deceased
spouse will be listed. The information that is unique to a person
is what the papers desire. The highlights of one's life is what
makes the obituary interesting. The information we pass on to these
papers is handled by the papers as any other news item, the newspaper
takes sole responsibility for what does and does not appear in the
print.
Weekly papers are generally following the same guidelines
as the daily papers but are less strict and some will run a photo
if provided. Most weekly papers to not charge to run a notice.
We cannot and will not take any responsibility for
the content of any obituary that is submitted to the papers by us
for you.
Paid notices are charged by the papers at classified
rates and appear in classified type fonts. The font is smaller than
the obituary and is displayed less prominently than the obituary.
But the notice should appear word for word as you wish. The charges
are passed on to you at the actual cost billed to us. The exact
cost can only be determined after submission as the charge is per
line.
Paid notices can be in any paper of your choice. Should
you wish this information to appear in any area we do not normally
use, do not hesitate to ask if we can get it placed for you, most
of the time we are able to do so. Free obituaries are limited to
the papers in the local area of residence and occasionally the former
residence of the deceased.
In most cases we will have you proof read any submission
before faxing to the paper. Sometimes it is impossible to hold for
your approval and still submit to the paper before a deadline. Your
cooperation can help us greatly and ensure that what goes to the
paper is exactly what you want.
